After testing the popular Sony A90J, we bought and tested the Sony A80J Its a lower-end model compared to the A90J, but how does the A80J perform Like any. I know Dolby vision or hdr10 is active and the a80J is either using that metadata to make the scene super dark, or it’s tone mapping hdr10 and following the eotf curve. Read 295 reviews and find the lowest price for the Sony A80J (2021) Series. The apl is way higher so I’m seeing more detail and brightness in the plasma. Even Crazier is that my plasma from 2011 plays its SDR content way brighter than my a80Js Dolby vision. See if that helps any?īut I don’t think anything is wrong. You can try forcing hdr10 on the a80J to slightly brighten your apl. But it’s also super accurate, so I know I’m not that far off. But basically, my a80j is the same with some modern content - very dim. I watched You season4 also and yes, there are loads of scenes that are super dark on my a80J also. Dolby vision content is especially dark and dim - some scenes get as low as 1-5nits! Your Samsung not only was over brightening, but it was also in hdr10 - so allowing a brighter apl vs DV.
